In the media: The mid-market M&A slump isn’t going anywhere

Insights

Our CEO, Rami Cassis, recently wrote an article for IFLR about how tariff-driven uncertainty is keeping mid-market dealmaking frozen.

Dealmakers are grappling with US tariffs that are stoking market uncertainty, with the mid-market feeling it most acutely. Smaller transactions have far less room to absorb a shifting cost base.

Rami argues the slump is structural rather than cyclical in the near term, and unlikely to correct on its own. Waiting for a return to previous conditions is not a strategy.

Valuation gaps between buyers and sellers are widening, not closing. Until that gap narrows, processes will continue to stall late rather than fail early.

Investors should assume the freeze persists and plan for longer hold periods. That means budgeting for operational investment over a longer horizon than most funds originally modelled.
